Indecent (2023) | Directed by Rebecca Willingham | Costume Design by Avery Lauer | Production Photos by Michael Brosilow

As the assistant costume designer, I was responsible for the research and construction of the Stars of David. The were made with a layer of yellow woven cotton, heavy fusible interfacing, and fusible web to attach the yellow cotton to the back as a whole piece. They were then stitched along the edges, cut from the back piece of cloth, painted, and aged. Onstage, the actors pulled them out of their jacket pockets and placed them on the right side of their jackets. The patches were held up by metal washers covered in yellow fabric stitched to the patches which would magnetize to heavy duty magnets stitched into the coats. To make sure the actors place the stars with the font upright, a small yellow bead was stitched to the top point of the star.
